Five Little Monkeys Quiet Book

I have recently developed interest in making quiet book pages for baby. It looks fun and I can customise the pages according to her liking. I began by making the Itsy Bitsy Spider page and now I have completed the Five Little Monkeys page.

Five Little Monkeys

I downloaded the printable templates from a blog named Imagine Our Life. The blog is written by Stephanie who is a graphic designer, crafter and montessori homeschooling mommy. Her blog has many quiet book tutorials and printable templates. I really admire her hard work and creativity.

Last month, I ordered the craft materials from EZbuy at a very attractive price. I bought various colors 1m felt cloth, 99 pieces of pre-cut 30cm x 30cm felt cloth (multi-color), buttons, velcro, fillers, and fabric.

After cutting out the templates, I traced them on the felt and cut out the pieces. All the small pieces were hand-sew because mum’s sewing machine is kept too deep in the storeroom and she is reluctant to get it out for me. For the big pieces, I used glue gun to stick them to the background felt. Personally, I prefer to sew all the parts because it gives a more 3D effect. But without the sewing machine, it would take ages for me to complete 1 page. So all hail the glue gun~

Unlike Stephanie’s guide, I added velcro for the Mama Monkey and Doctor Monkey. Baby is too young to use clip buttons so velcro makes it easier for her to stick the monkeys. These yellow velcro which I got from EZbuy came with adhesive and I reinforce it with glue.

Notice the 5 little monkeys are individual pieces with no velcro attached. As I sing the song, baby will take 1 monkey to jump on the bed and then drop it on the floor until there is no little monkey left on the bed.

There is matching numbers on the little monkeys and their pillows. I would use it to teach baby numbers and asked her to match the numbers. Baby is 17 month old and she can recite 1 – 10 in English and Chinese with help for number 3 and 7 as she could not pronounce these two numbers yet.

Each monkey is filled with fillers so they are not so flat-looking.

In total, I took 4-5 nights (~3 hours each) to complete this page. I had to wait till baby is asleep before I can work on my project.

Mummy Monkey

Notice the phone which the Mama Monkey is holding? It coincidentally looks like iPhone X. LOL~
Anyway, it has a “picture” of the Doctor Monkey in white scrub because Mama Monkey is calling the doctor.

Doctor Monkey

And for the Doctor Monkey, he is holding the phone with Mama Monkey’s picture. When baby plays with the Mama and Doctor Monkeys, she would put them on her ear to pretend to make a call using their “phones”.

Overall, baby adores this quiet book page because she loves the song. She would not allow me to keep it away even when it’s her bedtime. Now I am even more motivated to make more pages for her to play and eventually bind it into a book.

Five Little Monkeys Lyrics

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

Four little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

Three little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

Two little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
So Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

One little monkey jumping on the bed
He fell off and bumped his head
So Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
No more monkeys jumping on the bed!

No little monkeys jumping on the bed
None fell off and bumped his head
So Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
Put those monkeys back in bed!

Kampong Chai Chee Restaurant

Went for company’s team building at Kallang Leisure Park today. We had an enjoyable but tiring bowling session and then dinner at Kampong Chai Chee Resaturant.

I ordered the Teh Tarik – Gajah (elephant) size because I thought that the regular cup will be quite small. So when the drink is served, everyone wowed. It’s a huge cup of Teh! Just like the sugar cane drink size. Luckily the Teh Tarik is not too sweet.

My colleague ordered the guava ice blended drink which has a beautiful pink shade.

The chef is Chinese but the zi char food is halal certified. We had the fried chicken in thai sweet chilli sauce. The chicken is tender while the batter is very light and crispy~ It got snatched up pretty quickly.

IMG_6808

This Foo Yong Egg is tasty. Scrambled eggs with prawns fried in high heat and lotsa oil tastes the best~ Lets leave the dieting to tomorrow while we feast on the fluffy eggs.

IMG_6809

The next dish is black pepper beef cooked with curry leaves, onions and bell peppers. The beef is very tender but I find the sauce too thick and sweet.

IMG_6812

The hotplate egg tofu tasted mediocre. Lacking in the wok hei. The plus point is the generous amount of veggies and mushroom added to the dish.

IMG_6810

This fried baby sotong is the crowd winner. I took the pic hastily before everyone digged in. Very crispy baby sotong coated in sweet sticky sauce and paired with crunchy cucumber, onions and tomato. Oh so yummy~
As we had ordered too much food, the left over baby sotong got tabaoed back.

The stir fried kang kong in sambal belachan is pretty good too. Some of my colleagues find it spicy, but it’s mild for me. This veggie is well cooked but still retains its crunchy texture and doesn’t have the bitter taste. It’s a good dish to go with white rice.

IMG_6814

The mixed veggie is not bad; just lacking in wok hei. There’s fish cake, Chinese cabbage, snap pea, squid, mushroom, baby corn, prawn, carrot, cauliflower, kailan, and straw mushroom. That’s a lot of different ingredients in one dish!

The final dish is a seafood tom yum soup. Nothing fancy. Lacking in sourness and taste.

All of us ate so much tonight. Feeling so bloated and satisfied. Looking forward to the next company activity~

Ridiculous Advices for New Parents

My baby is now 7 month old. It’s been a tough 7 months but whenever baby smiles or achieves a new milestone, I felt that all the hard work and pain is worth it.

Previously I blogged about nonsense old wives’ tales and today I shall touch on ridiculous advices which I heard throughout these 7 months.

1) Apply breastmilk on every part, literally, of the baby’s body.

Baby has acne: put breastmilk on it and it heals like miracle!

Baby’s eyelashes are short: apply breastmilk on it. I swear that the lashes grew thick and long after a few application!

Baby is sick: Flu, common cold, fever, etc. No need to see a doctor, just feed him breastmilk! Afterall, breastmilk has all the ready antibodies!

Baby has rashes or eczema: apply breastmilk! It heals like wonder!

Seriously… breastmilk provides good nutrients and antibodies for the baby through ingestion. But it does not do wonders. If breastmilk has such incredible uses, pharmaceutical company’s would have use it as a base for drug research.

Breastmilk turns bad after leaving it out for hours in room temp. And you want to apply it to your baby’s face and lashes?!?! It’s like providing buffet for the bacteria.

When baby is sick, parents need to assess the seriousness and bring the baby to a doctor. Plus, every baby is different, so a cold might be normal for some baby, but deadly for the other. So please consult advice from the professionals and not those keyboard warriors.

2) Tips on speeding up baby’s hair growth

Apply hard liquor! Keep shaving the hair to match the bald spots! Apply breastmilk! Supplement calcium to the baby! Apply coconut oil!

Gosh… it’s genetics. Hair will eventually grow. Stop doing nonsense to your baby’s head. Stop treat him/her as guinea pig. If these methods work, there won’t be bald men/women anymore.

Ps: Calcium does not help in hair growth. Protein does.

3) How to make baby’s eyelashes longer and thicker?

Apply breastmilk! Trim the lashes when baby sleeps!

I tell you what, go find a man/woman with thick and longer lashes, and breed. This will increase the chance of having a baby with such characteristics.

It’s genetics! If both parents have pathetic lashes, how can you expect your baby’s to be thick and long? It’s like 2 Asian-eyed parents wanting to give birth to a baby with big eyes and double eyelids. =__=”

This reminds me of an advice I heard during pregnancy. Many told me to put up cute Caucasian baby photos in the room and keep looking at it. By doing so, my baby will turn out to be as cute as them. I almost peeped in my pants from laughing too hard. Well, You can stare at the picture till the cows come home and Asian baby will still look Asian.

4) Baby is teething

Rub salt on the gum, and it will erupt faster! Don’t look at it, or else baby will develop fever or get fussy. It’s pantang, you know?

Do I even need to comment? *eyeballs rolling*

There are so many more crazy advices and comments readily available. And parents can even swear by them. If coincidentally results turn out to be favourable, they will rush to claim credit. If it doesn’t work, they will blame that your baby is difficult or too different.

My advice? Consult the professionals when in doubt. Otherwise, let nature takes its course.
