Nespresso Machine

Nespresso

It’s Xmas season, so I got myself a Xmas gift – Nespresso machine!

I have been eyeing for it since so long ago but I couldn’t bear to spend so much on the machine. Finally the year is coming to an end, and people are receiving gifts from Xmas gift exchange and year-end Dinner & Dance lucky draws. So it’s the best time to visit Gumtree and St Classified websites to grab good deals!

I bought my Nespresso Inissia from a lady who got it from D&D lucky draw but she is a traditional coffee drinker and doesn’t need the machine. The usual price for Inissia in the shop is $238, but she sold it to me for $158.
Cousin’s dad saw my machine and also got one for himself. He bought the Nespresso U White at $150, also from an uncle who doesn’t drink atas coffee.

The machines come with warranty and 16 free capsules. I registered myself in the Nespresso website and bought the Welcome Offer 150 capsules (pre-assorted Grand Cru selection) and it came with a complimentary Discovery Box for me to display the capsules. Subsequently, I can order the capsules from Nespresso website (free delivery for purchase of 150 capsules) or get them directly from the boutiques.

Feeling excited with our new machines, cousins and I decided to attempt 3D coffee art. We borrowed the Aeroccino machine from her neighbour to froth the milk. Here’s our not-so-proud creation (actually more of an embarrassment).

Coffee Art

Well…….. it was supposed to be a cat…..

Ok, enough of our disgraceful and LMFAO creation.

Bangkok Shopping Trip – Part III

Having read several reviews of Mr. Jones’ Orphanage cafe, we went to try it during this trip. Pakcik is a big fan of cakes and coffee so I knew he would like this place. A pat on my shoulder for the good recommendation~

There are several outlets in Bangkok, and the one we went is at level 3 Siam Center.

Mr. Jones Orphanage

We avoided the crowd by going before lunch time.

We were welcomed by these droolicious cakes upon entering the cafe.

The cafe is train and teddy bear themed. The tables and seats are like those from the olden days train.

Note: The seats are quite compact and non-movable. So people with long legs or are too big sized, they may not be comfortable with the limited space.

Even Pakcik finds the seat small.

See the cute teddy bears hanging all over the cafe~~

There are many staff and service is very prompt.

Red Velvet cake

Since it’s near Halloween, my red velvet cake is Halloween themed. The cake is moist and fluff but the icing is too sweet for my liking.

Molten chocolate

This is the must-try item. The warm chocolate lava cake with the vanilla ice cream is so yummy~

hot chocolate

The hot chocolate is very rich. I don’t know why they still serve it with sugar. Any sweeter, I think I will become diabetic. LOL~ kidding…

Pricing wise, it’s slightly cheaper than cafe in sg. Cakes are from 100++ baht and drinks from 70++ baht.

Addicted to the cakes, Pakcik requested for another visit to the cafe before we leave Bangkok.

coffee

This time I tried the mocha, and I was given a cute bear coffee art~

Pakcik’s Americano. See the cute reminder on the cup?

carrot cake

The carrot cake is very moist and dense. You can see the generous amount of carrots and fat raisins in the cake.

waffles

For those who like crispy waffles, you will enjoy this strawberry waffles with vanilla ice cream. It’s crispy on the surface and fluffy inside. Minus the too-much-cream, this is yummy too~

So do try the cakes from Mr Jones’ Orphanage when you are in Bangkok~

Wheeler’s Yard

Wheeler's Yard

Went to Wheeler’s Yard with Pakcik on one of the weekends. We had to use google map to find the place because it was so well hidden. Parking is also an issue because there is very limited parking lots in that street. One alternative is to park in the HDB carpark across the road.

It was pretty warm so we waited for a seat in the air conditioned area. Upon ordering at the counter, we were given this buzzer. When our food is ready for collection the buzzer will vibrate.

Wheeler's Yard 1

I must say that the cafe is well maintained and managed. Customers don’t have to stand around to wait for coffee because they will be notified by the buzzer. Utensils, iced water and sauces were neatly placed in a corner for the customers. From ordering to food collection, everything is systematic and neat. Great effort!

Wheeler's Yard 2

We already had lunch earlier so we just ordered drinks and cheese fries.

Cheese Fries

The cheese fries ($9) was great! I love thick fries and the generous amount of cheese. The food portion in Wheeler’s Yard is huge, so don’t be too greedy when you place orders. I saw quite a number of couples struggling to finish their 2 mains and fries.

Hot Chocolate

Pakcik had mocha while I tried the hot chocolate. Hmmm… think the mocha is better. The hot chocolate is not up to my expectation. It didn’t gave me the “happy” feeling after drinking it. Kinda too powdery?

Anyway, both of us like this cafe and will definitely be back to try the burgers and breakfast.
