Week 13 Day 3

28 Oct 2015:

Finally in week 13, when risk of miscarriage will drop significantly. Morning sickness is also slowly leaving me, hence giving me more energy. I joined a chat group for May 2016 Mummies, and some mummies said that their morning sickness went away for a while and came back full blown again. Some even had it till the day they give birth. Hearing all these makes me super worried because I don’t want my morning sickness to come back. I think stopping at week 12 is better.

As the day goes by, waking up in the morning gets less torturing. It progressed from “omg, why am I awake?? Burp-burp-retch. Stomach flipped upside down and contract to its minimum size. Head spinning, nose blocking, and bladder bursting” to “omg, why am I awake again?? Burp-burp-burp-burp-burp-retch. Slight dizziness, nose still blocked, bladder bursting and stomach contracting” to “oh I am awake. Burp-burp. Slight drowsiness, nose stuffy, sinus kicks in (thanks to the bloody haze), bladder bursting, stomach feels gastric” to “I am awake, so sleepy. Sinus kicks in (bloody haze still there), bladder bursting, stomach feels gastric” to finally, “I am awake, must pee NOW! Sinus kicks in, stomach feels gastric, must feed now!”

As the uterus expands with the baby growing rapidly, my bladder has lesser space to expand now. I have to wake up twice in the night just to pee. I tried to skip a peeing session but I failed. Even clearing the bladder before I sleep doesn’t help.

I also can’t sleep on my back for Long now. The weight of the uterus makes it feels uncomfortable. I have to alternate between the left and right sleeping posture and now my lower back aches. When I lie on my back, I can feel the round uterus on my lower abdomen. It now bulges out like there is a grapefruit underneath the belly. Sometimes it moves to the right, sometimes left and sometimes nearer to the belly button. It’s now hard to locate the baby heartbeat using the Doppler that I bought. All I hear is my own heartbeat and it sends me to panic mode. So afraid that the baby no longer has heartbeat.

Food wise, my appetite is better. I have to feed every 4 hours. No oily food for me as my stomach still can’t process them well and I will feel terrible. Therefore, no chicken rice, Nasi lemak, Char Kway Tiao, etc. No garlic, onions, beans, and food that produces gas, otherwise I will burp to death.

I will be going for a short trip to Taiwan on week 14. This trip was booked way before I was pregnant. Hopefully I will be physically fit enough to enjoy it. Right after that I will have to monitor the sites in Taiwan again. So that’s 2 weeks of travelling for me. Dear baby, please cooperate with mummy!

I have been hanging out at auntie’s house frequently because she cooks nice food and cares for me. She said that her Husband wasn’t there when she gave birth to Cousin and only managed to see her after 1 week. Upon hearing this, I glared at Dear and told him if he were to be absent during labor, he shall be called “Uncle Darren” instead of “Daddy”.

Week 11 Day 2

13 Oct 2015:

Went to see Dr. Tho today at his Mt. E Novena clinic. Scheduled to do the Harmony test. So relieved that I finally get to do the test. My previous pregnancy didn’t make it to week 10 so the test was cancelled. Yeah~ this time round we made it! So proud of myself and baby~

Dr. Tho did a scan to confirm the heartbeat. That scared me a little because I was so afraid that history might repeat itself. Luckily, I saw the flickering heart and the heart beat was going strong~ Phew~ Baby is still very active and moving around.

The 2 fibroids in my uterus grew a little due to pregnancy, but Dr. Tho said that it will shrink later or after the pregnancy and I don’t have to worry about them.

Dr. Tho then asked the nurse to give me the consent form for Verifi test instead of Harmony. Both of them are the same tests, just by different companies, so it doesn’t matter. 2 tubes of blood were drawn for the Verifi test and 1 tube for routine blood test. Glad that Dr. Tho is good at phlebotomy, no bruise and not much pain~ The needle was pretty thick… Maybe a 18G?

Was told that it would take 10-14 days for the result to come back from USA. Hopefully the result is good. I really have high hopes for this pregnancy and I have suffered so much during the past few weeks. Dr. Tho gave me prenat vitamins and fish oil and told me to start eating them at week 12. The next appointment will be 4 weeks later. I felt a bit insecure because I am so used to seeing the gynae to check on the baby every week. Guess now I will just rely on the Doppler to check the heartbeat weekly.

Here’s a clip I made from the ultrasound scan~ Spot the baby doing my iconic “Hi” waves and legs crossing~

Showed Elaine and Min min the scan photos and video. The nose looks so big in the photo and the chin is so obvious. Min min said that if the baby have big eyes like me, big nose like Dear and big mouth, then it will look like a Sesame Street character! =___=”

Seriously… What kind of Cousin is she…

Anyway, at week 11, my morning sickness is still torturing me. But it seems to be getting a bit better. I am still losing weight and to date, I have lost 3kg. On top of the usual morning sickness, now my skin is becoming very dry, the skin around my mouth is very flaky and leaving a reddish patch when the dry skin falls off. When will I have the pregnancy glow? It seems like I am just looking like a sick person.  Morning sickness, please leave me soon!

Week 10 Day 5

09 Oct 2015:

I was assigned to co-monitor in Taiwan last week. Since it was such a short notice, I had no choice to but to see Dr. Tho on Saturday and get the progesterone jab in advance and replenish the utrogestan pills before I flew off on Sunday. Dr. Tho said that it’s better to avoid flying during the first trimester, but I had no choice.

The site visits were alright and the investigators were super friendly. Probably the friendliest Doctors I have ever met in my 7 years of experience. I stayed in Sheraton Grande Hotel in Taipei, took HSR to Kaohsiung on the 3rd day and back to Taipei in the evening. Probably because I was moving around a lot so I had brown discharge and mild cramp for the first 3 days. The bump felt a bit tender and tight at night.

Thank goodness the morning sickness was at the minimum when I was there alone. I was still able to eat proper 3 meals (in small quantity) and still able to work. My colleague who is 8 months pregnant gave me a lot of tips for pregnancy. She too had miscarriage previously and this will be her first baby. Wish her all the best for her labour next month.

I came back to Sg on Thursday. The 4+ hours flight was a little uncomfortable because my lower back aches and I have to keep moving my legs for better blood circulation. The airplane food tastes even more terrible, but luckily SIA provides Haagen Dazs ice cream for dessert. That’s the only thing I enjoyed during the flight.

Today I headed down to Astra Women’s clinic in Mt Elizabeth Novena to see Dr. Henry Cheng as Dr. Tho is overseas. Did a scan and the baby is fine. We even saw the baby kicking its legs and waving the arms. Sooooo cute~~~ Dr. Cheng said it’s such a naughty baby cause it was kicking the legs so much, as though it’s swimming breaststroke. Its nose and chin are so obvious in the ultrasound image. *感动*

Glad that the baby stayed strong and healthy. Dr. Cheng said that I can increase the dosage of the hormone pills (up to 6 pills a day) if I have brown discharge again. Dr. Cheng is very chirpy and friendly compare to Dr. Tho who is more serious. Feeling relieved after the scan, I shall rest more and wait for next Tuesday’s harmony test!
